"The word of the Lord came to me: 'Son of man,
with one blow I am about to take away from you the delight of your eyes.
Yet do not lament or weep or shed any tear. Groan quietly; do not
mourn for the dead." . . . So I spoke to the people in the morning, and
in the evening my wife died. The next morning I did as I had been
commanded."
Ezekiel 24:15-18

God knew how precious Ezekiel's wife was to him, "the delight" of his eyes! She was one of the few consolations he had, given the difficulty of his ministry. What a horrible burden for Ezekiel to bear. Then, he was not to mourn - this being a sign, a prophecy to the children of Israel. He did what he was commanded.
God doesn't demand as much from us, to speak his word to others. How shameful that we balk at speaking His Word, even when it costs us so little. How utterly shameful that we can be tempted to twist and turn God's Word to suit us, in view of Ezekiel's stoic faithfulness! How pathetic our whining about the resistance we face! For the sake of God's message of Gospel, we need to emulate Ezekiel, to do as we have been commanded.

Prayer For The Day
Dear Lord, your ways are mysterious, and sometimes strike us as being very hard. Thank you for sparing us the kind of burden Ezekiel faced. Forgive us for our unfaithfulness, and our whining. Fill us with the same faithfulness of Ezekiel, that we may boldly tell others of your love today! For Jesus' sake, Amen.
