"When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges for Israel.
The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah,
and they served at Beersheba. But his sons did not walk in his ways.
They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted
justice."
1 Samuel 8:1-3

Nothing is more disheartening to godly parents, than to see their children forsake their ways and slip into sin, rebellion, and unbelief. Samuel saw it in his mentor's sons, but could not prevent it in his own family.
Perhaps this gives us insight into God's feelings when His children [that's us] do not "walk in His ways." Alas, this is true of us all. All of us sin and fall short of the glory of God. For this Christ came, suffered for our sins, died, and rose again in victory! You are forgiven!
So now, what ways will we walk in? The ways of Joel and Abijah? Or the ways of God? Even as we fervently desire and pray that our children will walk in our ways, let us make sure that we are walking as Samuel did, in God's ways.

For The Day

O Lord, I also frequently fall into temptation, willing to accept
dishonest gain, living out of selfishness and greed. Forgive me for
my sins, and lead me out of idolatry. Then please Lord, keep my children
in Your ways, to life eternal, Amen.
