"On the day I punish Israel for her sins, I will destroy the altars
of Bethel . . . I will tear down the winter house along with the summer
house; and houses adorned with ivory will be destroyed and the mansions
will be demolished, declares the Lord."
Amos 3:14,15

Thought For The Day

In spite of idolatry, rebellion against God, and stubborn wickedness, the children of Israel often prospered. Such prosperity was not a sign of God's favor, but of His patience with them. Such patience eventually runs out, and punishment must follow.
All temples raised for irreligion, against God's Word, will be destroyed. Likewise, the property of those who trust in riches [their houses and homes], but who have no humble trust in God will be destroyed. We must learn from these Israelites, not to trust in wealth, not to despise God's Word.
Do not be deceived by some gospel of "prosperity." God's patience will also wear out with our wealthy but godless population. Repent, and turn to Jesus for forgiveness and wisdom! Center your hearts and minds in Him, that inspite of such calamity, you will remain firm on the Rock.

Prayer
For The Day

O Lord, often I am tempted to see my own prosperity as a sign of Your approval and blessing upon me. Forgive me for thinking that Your patience is some tacit approval of my sin. Forgive me, and renew my resolve to turn my heart fully to You! Amen.
