The Only True God

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit . . . There is no God but one."
Matthew 28:19; 1 Cor. 8:4

The only true and living God is one, has one name, yet three distinct Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  While the words "Trinity" and "Triune" are not in Scripture, these words have been used for centuries to denote this great mystery - Three Persons, yet One God!

The church didn't invent this.  In fact, many times I'm sure the church has wished the Scripture didn't present this mystery.  Certainly it has engendered much strife within the church.  Many have rejected this doctrine, choosing instead to "tweak" the verses, and make things more "understandable."

Such a solution does no good.  What good is the assurance that God makes sense [fits into] to human reason?  If you think about it long enough, we can't even fathom the attributes of God, let alone His nature!

If God chooses to reveal Himself in this way, enigmatic though it may be, I will simply believe Him.  He is God, my Savior, my Best Friend, my Lord!  Oh, and quite a bit above me!

Prayer For The Day

O Lord, how awesome You are, and beyond our full comprehension.  Yet in the gift of Your Son, and by the work of Your Holy Spirit, I know that You are love.  Help me to humble myself, and to simply accept with awe the mystery of the Trinity.  May I continue to find comfort in the fact that You surpass the capacity of my finite mind.  Amen.
