"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship,
to the breaking of bread and to prayer."

This was the response of the first believers in Christ. This was life within the church in the earliest days of the Christian church. What is significant about it?
1] Devotion to the apostolic teaching - the Holy Scripture
2] Devotion to the fellowship - church life, together with
fellow believers
3] Devotion to the Sacrament of Christ's body and blood -
the breaking of bread
4] Devotion to prayer - both within the worship of the church,
and privately
Such a way of life guaranteed frequent fellowship with Jesus, Who
speaks to us in His Word [Holy Scripture], Who is with us wherever two
or three gather in His Name, Who gives us His body and blood in the bread
and wine for the forgiveness of sins, and Who hears our prayers!
Such fellowship with Jesus keeps us firm in faith and gives us new
life. Such fellowship with Jesus is life, eternal life. It
begins here and now! What shall we be devoted to?

Prayer
For The Day
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
O Lord, though a member of Your church, many things cloud my view of what is truly important. Even when I prioritize my church life, various programs, activities, and customs may seem more important than Your Word, Sacrament, Worship, and Prayer. Touch my heart and make me devoted to those things which are essential, that I too may rejoice forever to fellowship with You. Amen.
