Share All Good Things

"Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor. Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows."
Galatians 6:6,7

Shortages in "instructors" plague almost every church body today. Why is this so? There are so many "good things" available today, tempting us to pursue them.

Rather than rejoicing that needs are met abundantly, pastors and teachers compare what they make with what truck drivers, plumbers, and construction workers make, and see that they earn far less.

Instead of rejoicing in what God has given, the "instructors" see that the "instructed" have far more of the good things, and don't share them generously. The temptation to have, rather than waiting for others to give, is great.

Few pastors and teachers live an opulent lifestyle. Most give sacrificially. "Instructors" must learn to be content. However, let us not be deceived - we will reap what we sow.

Prayer For The Day

O Lord, You know the weaknesses of my heart, and the deceitfulness of wealth. Heal me from greed, selfishness, and miserliness. Touch many to be content in the blessings of "instructing" others, that we may continue to enjoy the ministry of Your Word and Sacraments. Enable me to generously "share all good things" with those who instruct me. Amen.
