holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the Lord."

Thought For The Day

The first part addresses laziness - "work is to be done." The second part addresses the most important aspect of human life - rest and worship of the Lord.
Both parts need emphasis today. There are still some who are lazy, who don't really work hard for six days. However, worse today are the many who neither rest nor consider the Lord on the seventh day!
Yes, the external observance of the Sabbath is done away with by Christ, the "Lord of the Sabbath," Who has truly become our "Sabbath rest." However, we still need a day of rest, and we still need to take the opportunity to worship Jesus with His people.
Don't forget the lesser part, to work! But "remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy!" Don't forget to rest and to worship the Lord one day each week! That's the best part of this life!

For The Day

O Lord, it is easy for me to become lazy, and not work as hard as I can. It is easy for me also to become addicted to making money, and addicted to recreation, so that I neither rest nor worship You! Forgive me, and lead me to allow Your balance to govern my life! Inspire me with Your love, to keep one day each week as a "holy day," a Sabbath of rest to You. Amen.
