We read the glorious assurance of God's predestination of His children to the glory of heaven. This is not a predestination of unbelievers to hell! This topic has troubled the church for years. "God wills all men to be saved." But He also predestines believers to glory.
The purpose of this Word of God is to give us utmost comfort at times when we doubt our standing with God. The sequence is in God's hands, His actions: He predestined you, called you, justified you, and glorified you [see the tense? it's as good as done!] You have been called to faith through the Gospel; so you were predestined, have been justified, shall be glorified!
These words are not to create laziness and sloth. They are to compel us to the greatest joy and confidence, so that we can confirm our calling with a life of love for others! Only certainty of God's love, can produce the fruit of love in our lives!

Prayer For The Day

Heavenly Father, preserve me from doubt and despair. Let me see the glorious reality, that You have chosen me from eternity, done everything needed for my salvation, and guaranteed me a place in glory. Then preserve me also from sloth and presumption, so that I might live a fruitful life of good works, for Jesus' sake, Amen.
