Philistine Discipline

"The Lord aroused against Jehoram the hostility of the Philistines and of the Arabs who lived near the Cushites. They attacked Judah, invaded it and carried off all the goods found in the king's palace, together with his sons and wives."
2 Chronicles 21:16,17

God detested the Philistines. They were wicked, godless, and violent. Still, he used them to chastise His own people, giving the Philistines power even over Judah. So the evil of Jehoram [idolatry and unbelief], and those who followed him, stimulated this fierce anger and wrath of God.

God detests modern day Philistines - godless, wicked, violent people. Yet, if His people ignore Him, pervert His Word, distort true religion, and engage in idolatry - God may allow the wicked to dominate over His own people even today.

Let us flee the weakness and sins of Jehoram. Let us commit ourselves to Yahweh, the only true and living God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Let us cling to His Word, preach it in its truth and purity, and believe in with all sincerity of heart!

O Lord, how fearful to read of Your judgment on Your own people. Help us to see and respect Your righteous wrath, and how jealous You are for the devotion and commitment of Your people. Forgive us, have mercy on us, preserve us, and inspire us to faithfulness to You. Amen.
