Maturity

"Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity."
Hebrews 6:1

The author had just complained that they needed "milk, not solid food." Then he insists that we move on. So what is it? Milk, or solid food?

Simple sermons are spurned because "we've heard it all before." Difficult sermons are dismissed as being pedantic. We don't attend Bible Class if the topic is easy - we're bored. We don't attend if it's too deep - we're not theologians.

The elementary teachings about Christ are life and salvation. We must always return to them. Still, it is God's will that you be moving on toward maturity.

Prayer For The Day

O Lord, so often I need the milk of Your Word, the simple, precious comfort of Your forgiveness and mercy in Jesus. I can never do without these assurances. I confess too, that I need to grow, but am often lazy and fearful of learning new things. Help me to retain the simple things, and to grow toward maturity, as I follow Jesus. Amen.
