from it."

Thought For The Day

Elsewhere in Scripture this same warning is repeated. In Revelation, with severe warnings. The devil first attempted to "alter" God's Word. He took away the threat of death ["you will not surely die"] then added a promise of his own ["you will be like God"].
Human sin, which shapes us in the devil's image, seems incorrigible in doing the same thing. If I want something badly enough I can always come up with a way to justify it, sidestepping God's Word. If I really don't want to believe something, I can always find some way to soften God's Word, distort it, and dismiss it altogether.
One of the worst temptations comes when I am being very "spiritual." Now I invent all kinds of ways to show my "love" for God, while ignoring His law, continuing in sin, and refusing to simply love others. Yet I have self-contrived evidence to convince myself and others that I am very "spiritual."
God forgives us for such rebellion in Jesus' suffering and death.
However, His Word is a light for us, and we must take great care not to
allow our sinful nature to extinguish that light from our hearts and minds!

Prayer
For The Day

O Lord, what an irreplaceable and astonishing blessing You have given me in Your Word. Yet so easily I despise Your Word, and manipulate it to suit me. Forgive me for my rebellious mind and spirit. Keep me forever in the light of Your Word, and enable me to grow in simply receiving Your Word, believing it, and obeying it. Amen.
