"He went up to Nazareth, where he had been
brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his
custom."

Thought For The Day

It was Jesus' custom to be at church, among the people of God, to meditate on God's Word, and to worship. It is no different today! Jesus is present with His people, those who believe in Him, where they gather to hear God's Word, to receive Him in the Sacrament of His body and blood, and to worship Him.
Were church people of Jesus' day a better breed of people than church people today? Read on in this account, how indignant over Jesus' sermon, the people tried to murder Him! No one's tried to murder me over a sermon I've preached, although I have heard of some pastors being fired over a sermon. Still, Jesus gathered with these people, and gathers with His people today.
God forgive us for our stubborn rejection of His Word. God forgive us for refusing to hear His Word, or to meet Him in the Sacrament, or to worship Him, because of "the people" at church! Remember, Jesus will be waiting for you at church tomorrow. It's still His custom to gather with His people in worship, inspite of the sinfulness of the crowd.

Prayer
For The Day
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
O Lord, I too have had evil thoughts toward those preaching Your
Word, and evil thoughts toward others in Your church. Forgive me
for using self-righteous pretense to excuse myself from fellowshipping
with You and worshipping You at church. Inspire me to seek You where
You promise to be found, among Your people as they gather to hear Your
Word and receive You in the Sacrament! So bless and strengthen my
faith in You, Amen.
