How Far God Has Brought Us

"King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:  'Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?"

Often our temptation is to say, "O Lord God, look at who I am.  How is it that I have only advanced this far?  Why haven't you blessed me more abundantly, brought me further along in life?  I should be more successful!"

Yet when we consider the blessings of God relative to the struggle and poverty of our ancestors, we too can marvel that God has so richly blessed us with education, wealth, prestige, and influence.

Let us remember that as we humble ourselves, the Lord will exalt us.  Who knows how the Lord will yet use you to accomplish His purposes and bring glory to His name!  Thank God for His blessings thus far, and keep faith for the future!  God blessed David even more richly in the years following this prayer!

Prayer For The Day

O Lord God, make me grateful for how far You have brought me, in your gracious mercy in Christ Jesus!  Help me to see how glorious my future is, in Your eternal kingdom.  Make me to understand that simple acts of love and kindness are my greatest glory.  Then inspire and enable me to seek greatness in love, that I may bring You glory.  Amen.
