Holy Laughter

"Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."
Ps 126:2

Devotional Thought For The Day

The laughter was the result of God delivering His people from captivity. The Psalmist goes on to explain: "Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy." Because of sin, there can be no unmitigated laughter in this life. The reality of sin demands seriousness and sorrow.

Those who understand, who live in repentance, will be filled with joy and laughter at God's deliverance in Jesus Christ. He "has done great things" for you! Your captivity to sin is over. You are free from guilt, and free to love God and others! Unrestrained laughter and unmitigated joy will be yours in heaven!

Prayer For The Day
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

O Lord God, too often I am tempted to drown in sorrow over my sin, or to laugh prematurely or inappropriately. Help me both to sow in tears, and also to reap with joy. Fill my mouth with the holy laughter that comes with Your forgiveness and mercy in Jesus. Amen.
