Good Times, Bad Times

"When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider:  God has made the one as well as the other.  Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future."
Ecclesiastes 7:14

Good advice that Solomon gives us.  Times are good, so be happy.  You can't know what the future is, so don't allow fears or worries about the future to destroy your happiness today.  Likewise, if times are good, don't allow memories of past trouble to destroy current happiness.

So what if things do turn bad?  "God has made the one as well as the other."  We don't slip away from God's control.  God is always in control.  What we experience in life is what He provides, and what He allows.  Tough times call for turning to God in faith and trust.

If you know God's great love in Christ Jesus, then you know that "nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus."  We know God works all things together for our good.  Whatever God gives us, good times or bad, it is good for us!  Such faith enables us to have peace and joy even when we may not be happy.

Prayer For The Day

O Lord, help me to be happy in the good times.  Help me to see and smell the roses in my life.  Keep busy-ness, fears, worries, and memories from destroying my appreciation of Your blessings.  And give me faith in Your love, that I may always enjoy your peace and joy!  Amen.
