We think of our spiritual life as a matter of making decisions. "I must make the right decisions and engage in the right behaviors. This is what God demands."

Yes God demands it. But we cannot accomplish it. We cannot even will it. So we delude ourselves into thinking that we want to do good and that we actually perform good. Or we become depressed and give up. The law produces only delusion or despair.

But the Good News is that God supplies what we lack. First, complete forgiveness and pardon in Jesus. Then the will to do good. Then the actual accomplishment of His good purpose. God works this in you! Just cooperate with Him, and you'll be amazed at what He can do in you!

Prayer For The Day
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

O Lord, even when I think about cooperating with Your good and gracious will, my sinful flesh rebels. You must crush this enemy within me, and powerfully enable me to will and act according to Your good purpose! Help me live in the assurance of Your great love, and help me to allow You to work all good in me, Amen.
