What preceeds this account is a description of some of the battles of King David.  What follows is a listing of men of extraordinary valor, blessed by God with victory!  Why single out and highlight the accomplishment of warriors?  The accounts are gruesome, filled with killing and barbarity.

First, God watches out for His people, and gives them victory.  Second, the world is a gruesome place.  Sin is gruesome!  Third, some of God's people always rise to the occasion.

Let us be ambitious to be God's "mighty warriors" today.  We do not have to slay with the sword, but we can slay with the "sword of the Spirit" which is the Word of God!  May we be remembered as among those who rose to the occasion, through whom God worked great things!

Prayer For The Day

O Lord, these men probably never thought they would be remembered by name, for generations to come.  They were simply, humbly, Your men, Your servants.  Give us their valor and courage, that we too may be Your mighty warriors, taking Your powerful Word into our world today, gaining Your Spirit's victory!  Amen.
