Do Good To All

"As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."

Devotional Thought For The Day

Common sense tells us not to do good to evil people - we will only encourage, perhaps even facilitate their wickedness. However, here the Lord gives us permission, and His instruction: "Do good to all people."

Jesus taught, "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Let God and the governing authorities worry about detering and crushing evil. Let us do good to all people!

This includes, obviously, the family of faith, our brothers and sisters in Christ, who live and rejoice with us in the gracious love and forgiveness of Jesus. His tender love for us must surely inspire our love for others, for "everyone who loves the Father loves His child as well." [1 John 5:1]

Prayer For The Day

O Heavenly Father, my sinful heart always looks for excuses not to love and do good to those around me. Forgive me, and enable me to see how Your love continues to reach out to all human beings. Then help me to grow in love, doing good to all people, especially Your dear children in Christ. Amen.
