Baptism And History

"We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
Romans 6:4

Have you ever been in Christ's tomb?  Through baptism we are taken back and incorporated into the events of Christ's death and resurrection.  Christian baptism is "into death," Christ's death and burial.

We don't realize it when we're baptized, and many of us never think of it.  These words are not just "thought images," but reality, stated as facts.  All baptized have been in Christ's tomb, dead to sin!

The purpose of this incorporation is to give us the benefits of Christ's death - forgiveness, life and salvation!  Christ's death wasn't the end.  He is alive!  Through His resurrection we also have been raised to "new life."

O Lord, how wondrous Your timeless love, and Your gift of baptism, that I too should belong to You through Jesus' death!  Help me see the wonders of Your love, and keep me from stumbling in unbelief!  Give me joy that You have raised me also to Your new life!  Amen.
