"When the priest Pashhur son of Immer, the chief officer in the temple
of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things, he had Jeremiah the
prophet beaten, and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of Benjamin at
the Lord's temple."
Jeremiah 20:1,2

A rough crowd, that church! Stocks right there at the temple! Perhaps most disappointing is the fact that it was a high ranking priest who did this foul deed, beating a prophet of the Lord, and putting him in stocks! Life can get pretty tough, even within the church.
We may not physically beat another, but good tongue-lashings still occur. Whispering, gossip, and back-stabbings are still frequent. Terrible it is, when priests or prophets participate in this.
Think twice before lashing out! You don't want to be like Pashhur! Hold your temper and your tongue. Admonish gently, with love, but do not attack! Pashhur paid for his attack on the Lord's prophet. Better to be unjustly abused, than to abuse! May God help us clean up our act within the church!

Prayer For The Day

O Lord, it is shocking, what horrible words and deeds sometimes fill Your church! Shocking most, Lord, is when I realize that I too participate. Forgive me, and the brothers and sisters who succumb to this temptation. Bring me back into the gentleness of Your love, and heal my maddened spirit! Help me to witness Your love, with my love for others. For Jesus' sake, Amen.
