A Noble Example

"Barzillai the Gileadite also came down from Rogelim to cross the Jordan with the king and to send him on his way from there.  Now Barzillai was a very old man, eighty years of age.  He had provided for the king during his stay in Mahanaim, for he was a very wealthy man."
2 Samuel 19:31,32

Valor and loyalty has no age limits.  Old age and wealth need not spawn miserliness and laziness.  What's good and right and necessary is to be done regardless of age or virility.  Do what the Lord enables and empowers you to do.

The young would do well to learn once again how to learn from the elderly.  In despising old age and its wisdom, we cheat ourselves of valuable lessons.  If the elderly give up, because of our lack of respect, God's people lose.

Prayer For The Day

O Lord, continue to spur me to loyalty and valor and service, regardless of my age.  Remind me that good is good, no matter what my age or resources.  Help me to see and honor and revere the elderly.  Help them to set a noble example for us, and help us follow them.  Amen.
